Contractor was born in Mumbai and was a resident of Nigeria over seven years, was awash with cultural experiences and travels at an early age. She went to boarding school at the age of 7 to 9 in London. Then the family returned to Toronto (Canada) in Canada, where she lived for the rest of her childhood. Contractor was an outstanding student in Toronto and was trained as the classical ballet dancer. In the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school specializing in the arts), Contractor studied both dance and theatre. Contractor was just 16 when she realized that performing would be her career. Dance was her passion for almost 10 year. Following her graduation from high school Contractor was awarded a scholarship by the University of Toronto to pursue an undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology. She also earned an advanced degree in theatre. After a single year at University, Contractor went to an open audition for the show Pericles in the highly regarded and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and landed the role of lead. The show she played in 92 performances earned praise from Canadian critics. Contractor accepted the offer to take part in Stratford's Conservatory course. The Conservatory has only 8 men and four females accepted to a course of 20 weeks in the classical theatre. Contractor was guaranteed a spot in the next season of shows and eventually landed the part in the role of Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
